After being punched in the face, a Georgia Tech student was robbed over the weekend near campus.
The male student, whose name was not released, was walking westbound on 5th Street near West Peachtree Street when he heard a noise behind him around 12 a.m. Saturday, according to a campus police alert.
When the student turned around, the robbery suspect punched him in the face, placed him in a headlock and took his wallet, police said. The suspect then ran eastbound on 5th Street.
The student was not injured during the crime, which happened near the university's College of Management at Tech Square.
The suspect is described as a black male, between 5-feet-11 and 6-feet-2 inches tall with an athletic build. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with dark jeans and a black skull cap. The suspect may have been armed with a sharp object, police said.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
Late last week, a Georgia Tech employee was robbed in a separate incident just north of campus. The female victim was walking southbound on State Street near 11th Street, in the Home Park neighborhood, when a man walked up and demanded her purse, then snatched it from her, police said.
And earlier this month, three female Tech students were assaulted in separate incidents while walking across the campus.
Police have not said if any of the crimes appear to be linked.
