Update: Atlanta (DeKalb)

Nearly a year ago, Marcy McKean voiced her concerns about the beginnings of a sinkhole on Oakawana Road in DeKalb County and said the county covered the hole with a metal plate. This week, we are glad to report good news about the drawn-out saga.

“About a month ago I reported that the sinkhole was getting worse, beginning to crumble under the metal plate. The county came and put cones out and yellow tape over the metal plate. Now the road is starting to crumble away from the sides of the metal plate,” she wrote.

She said Oakawana Road is heavily traveled during the school year because of The Globe School, a language-immersion DeKalb County school, that is located right around the corner.

“The Globe does not provide bus service, so parents must drive their students to and from school. Plus Oakawana is a regular bus route for the county with several school buses traveling down the road each morning and afternoon,” she added.

We heard from McKean that workers were now finally fixing the sinkhole, and she was finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

JW Wells wants something done about a dangerous spot on a busy thoroughfare.

“On I-75 north past Canton Road in the far right-hand lane, on the north side of the bridge over Bells Ferry Road there is a bad place as you leave the bridge . It is eight or nine inches wide and has been worked on a couple of times, but not done properly. It really bangs your car badly. It has been that way forever. Can you prod some people to get it repaired correctly?” Wells asked.

We sent the item to the DOT and will keep you updated.
