New item-Clairmont Road

Cleve Hunter has a problem with a busy access road.

“I live off Briarcliff Road north of Clairmont, and should get off at the Clairmont Road exit to go home but have to go up to Shallowford Road exit, cut over to Briarcliff Road and go south,” Hunter wrote.

He said the reason is because traffic at Clairmont Road backs up all the way up onto the expressway trying to get off, mainly because the access road traffic, northbound side of Interstate 85, does not yield to exit traffic, as the signs show on the excess lanes.

“I think the main reason people don’t yield on the excess lanes is because the marking on the road shows the excess lines continuing all the way down to Clairmont. There should be a big white line drawn across the access lanes at the exit ramp so they know to yield to the exiting traffic,” he added.

We sent the item to the DOT and will keep you updated on the issue.

New item-DeKalb County

Yet another pothole is causing commuter frustration.

“Is it possible to fix the unavoidable pothole that sits at the “Do Not Block” sign at North Decatur Road and Westminster Way that has been there forever without being repaired? You either have to hit the pothole or swerve into the other lane to avoid it … not recommended since there is usually traffic there every morning,” wrote a frustrated reader.

The reader pondered why it takes so long for obvious necessary repairs to be made.

“The wear and tear on the same cars (like mine) that have to travel these same routes every day to get to work is really a sore subject with many folks who use these streets on a daily basis,” the reader added.

We got a quick response from DeKalb County.

“As it pertains to this pothole, we sent someone out to survey it and we should have it fixed within a week, barring any inclement weather in the interim,” wrote Burke Brennan, the county’s press secretary.

New item … and fixed! Atlanta

A sharp-eyed reader spotted a misspelled sign.

“This sign is at the intersection of Shady Valley and Buford Highway … not Burford Highway,” wrote Phillip Talboy.

We received a quick response from city officials who said the sign had been corrected with the proper spelling.
