Suwanee’s City Hall is the first municipal hub in the state, and one of 21 nationwide, to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, city officials announced Thursday.
LEED certification is a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green buildings.
Suwanee's art deco-style building, which opened last year, earned 30 credits toward certification in a variety of design and construction areas. Those areas include water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.
The $7.2 million, 23,600-square-foot facility is made of aluminum, brick, glass, marble veneer, pre-cast concrete and steel. It boasts 87 windows, including a 47-foot arched window wall at top.
Suwanee's City Hall is the second public facility in Gwinnett County to obtain LEED certification. The Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center was the first.
