Suspected ATM thieves caught after police chase

Three suspected ATM thieves were captured early Wednesday after a police chase, and officers recovered a cash machine taken from a Downtown Atlanta dry cleaners.

The thieves shattered the front door of Cachet Cleaners at the intersection of West Peachtree Street and Ivan Allen Boulevard shortly before 5 a.m.

Atlanta police Capt. Van Hobbs told the AJC that an officer "came around the corner, saw the individuals fleeing in a black Chevrolet Suburban and got behind them."

Atlanta police and the Georgia State Patrol pursued the Suburban south out of downtown on Pryor Road, and a State Patrol trooper performed a "PIT" maneuver at the intersection of Pryor and Hendrix Avenue, sending the SUV into a fence.

Police arrested the three occupants of the Suburban and recovered the stolen ATM from the back of the vehicle, Hobbs said.

Atlanta police spokesman Otis Redmond identified the three as Dominique Crawford, 21, Terry Rivers, 18 and Demise McMullen, 23.

"They did it and we caught them," Hobbs said. "The [officer] was right up the street and got on top of them and they didn't have a chance."
