SUNDAY’S WEATHER TRAFFIC: Showers expected for second half of weekend

Scattered rain moved into North Georgia Sunday, finally bringing an end to the area’s dry streak.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said the rainy weather will stick around through the beginning of the week.

Unfortunately, that means the roughly 300,000 revelers who have descended on Atlanta for this weekend’s Pride parade may want to pack a poncho, just in case.

The 49th annual LGBT celebration continues Sunday at Piedmont Park. There are multiple parades scheduled this weekend, but the main event kicked off at noon at the Civic Center MARTA station.

The Pride Parade will shut down several streets, according to Atlanta police, and rideshare services or MARTA are recommended for those traversing the city this weekend.

Sunday morning started off a little cooler, with lows in the 50s, Deon said. It’s expected to be an overcast afternoon with a 40% chance of showers and temperatures topping out in the 70s, she said.

“This is exactly what we need because we are dealing with a drought situation across much of North Georgia,” Deon said Saturday. “The rain will be a welcome sight.”

Pride isn't the only event happening in Atlanta on Sunday. The second day of the fall Festival on Ponce runs from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Olmsted Linear Park.

Atlanta’s wet weather is expected to stick around through the first few days of next week. There’s a 30% chance of rain on Monday and an 80% chance of showers and storms on Tuesday as temperatures in Atlanta reach the mid-70s, Deon said.
