Sunday’s weather is nice and warm as temperatures draw near 90 degrees for the second half of the weekend.

Showers are expected to move in during the evening, but that should leave plenty of time to get out and enjoy the summerlike weather.

“Hot might be an understatement for the next several days because we are really going to be sweating it out,” Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said Saturday. “Make sure that AC is in working order. You will need it.”

Right now, it is 86 degrees in Atlanta. Sunday’s temperatures are expected to reach 89 degrees in Atlanta, up slightly from Saturday’s high of 88.

The record high for Atlanta on May 19 was a sweltering 96 degrees recorded in 1938, Deon said.

That should cool off overnight, however, as a weak front entering North Georgia could trigger a few showers and storms.

The rain could linger into Monday, which has a 30 percent chance of showers. Dry, hot conditions should return on Tuesday and Wednesday as high pressure builds and it continues to heat up, Deon said. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the low 90s next week.
