Today started off nice and warm, but isolated showers could put a damper on those afternoon plans.

Like the last several days, Sunday will be hot and humid with a chance of pop-up rainstorms later in the day, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

“While we won’t see any widespread rain, we could see an isolated shower or two pop up in the afternoon and evening,” she said.

The chance of showers should be significantly lower than it was Saturday, however, with Deon calling for a 30% chance of rain compared to Saturday afternoon’s 60% chance.

“Temperatures are heating up quickly, getting into the low-80s by 10 a.m.,” Deon said. “It will be a warm, humid afternoon with lots of moisture, just not a whole lot in the way of rain.”

The afternoon high is expected to top out at about 89 degrees, but the humidity will likely make it feel warmer than that.

While parts of North Georgia could see isolated showers, it won’t be anything like the weather our neighbors to the west are experiencing as Tropical Storm Barry makes its way across the Gulf Coast.

The storm made landfall in Louisiana on Saturday, and has the potential to dump a foot or two of rain into the region’s already-full rivers.

Flash flood watches were issued for Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and western Tennessee through the weekend, but Georgia shouldn’t be impacted, Deon said.

“It is July, so we’ll see those scattered rain showers on and off again for the next few days,” Deon said.

As for traffic, the Georgia Department of Transportation has crews working on road projects across metro Atlanta, which could affect travel times this weekend.

There were no major delays reported on metro Atlanta's interstates Sunday morning, but construction could impact traffic as more drivers hit the road, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Motorists could also see delays near the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange as road work continues after being suspended for the July 4 weekend.
