After a chilly start to the weekend, Sunday should be a little warmer.
Unfortunately, scattered showers are expected to move into metro Atlanta late in the evening and stick around through Monday morning’s commute, Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
The good news is the rain should hold for most of the day, giving North Georgia residents plenty of time to get out and enjoy what’s left of the weekend.
The day will get off to a chilly start, however, so it might be best to bring a jacket or coat if you have any outdoor activities planned, Deon said.
“If you’re heading out early for church services, temperatures will be in the low to mid-30s,” she said. “By the afternoon, we are going to have some milder conditions around.”
By about 3 p.m., it’s expected to warm up to the mid-50s in Atlanta, and those scattered showers likely won’t make their way through the region until late Sunday, Deon said.
“The rain’s really not ruining your weekend plans too much because it’s going to be a late evening/overnight event,” she said.
The new year has gotten off to a soggy start in Atlanta.
So far in 2020, nearly 8 inches of rain has accumulated at the Atlanta airport, which is more than double seasonal norms.
As for traffic, drivers may run into some overnight lane closures on the Perimeter as Georgia Department of Transportation crews make repairs under the I-285 bridge at Cascade Road.
Detours are possible, so drivers are encouraged to give themselves plenty of time to reach their destinations.
