Student suspended after gun found at DeKalb school

May 6, 2014

A McNair Middle School student was suspended for allegedly bringing a gun to school today, authorities said.

The security team was notified after someone reported that a student may have a gun, Principal Ronald B. Mitchell said in a letter sent home with students today. The school was placed on lockdown for about 15 minutes while the weapon was confiscated and secured, he said.

No injuries were reported and the school day resumed.

DeKalb County schools spokesman Quinn Hudson told Channel 2 Action News that the gun was found in a book bag. He said the student, 13 or 14 years old, was suspended while the incident is investigated.
