A Morrow High School student brought an unloaded gun to school Thursday, but the weapon never made it inside the building.

The student, whose name was not released, is believed to have brought the weapon on the school bus, Lt. Brian Crisp with the Clayton County Sheriff's Office told the AJC.

Students alerted police, and faculty and staff members searched students as they got off buses Thursday morning, Crisp said. No weapon was found.

Later Thursday, students again reported the gun and the student was questioned about the weapon, Crisp said. The student led school officials to the gun, which had been placed on the ground outside the building. The .25-caliber gun was not loaded and no ammunition was found.

The student was arrested and booked into the Clayton County Youth Detention Center, Crisp said.
