A juvenile admitted to police Wednesday she lied about what she saw during a food fight at Lovejoy High School.
The girl, whose name was not released due to her age, was arrested and charged with making a false statement, according to Lt. Tina Daniel with Clayton County police. The teen allegedly gave false information in a courtroom and to a reporter, police said Thursday night.
Ten students were arrested May 10 when a food fight erupted at the school, police said. When one student allegedly began cursing at an officer and another teen jumped on the back of another officer, officers deployed pepper foam, Clayton County police previously told the AJC. Both teens were then arrested.
The following day, a female student told a television news station that officers handcuffed the two students and then deployed pepper foam. But when asked about her statement, the teen admitted to police she had lied, Daniel said.
The teen said she "got caught up in the middle of the incident and that she did know what to say when the reporter asked her if the officers used excessive force on the offenders," Daniel said.
The teen also gave the same account of what happened when called to testify in court.
The teen was turned over to a guardian, pending a hearing in Clayton County juvenile court.
