A tornado clean-up day is being planned for this weekend with teams of volunteers going to counties still buried under storm debris.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security, the Georgia Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster and Americorps Georgia are organizing the effort for this Saturday.

Volunteer coordination centers will be set up in Dade, Catoosa, Floyd, Lamar and Meriwether counties beginning at 8 a.m., and in Spalding County starting at 9 a.m.

Volunteers should come prepared to remove debris, rake yards and cut trees, which means wearing work clothes and sturdy gloves. Organizers also ask that volunteers bring tools such as chainsaws, hammers, hats and goggles, as well as sunscreen, food and water for themselves.

Several tornadoes devoured huge areas of North and Middle Georgia last week, leaving 15 people dead, 115 injured and more than 2,000 homes damaged or destroyed.

Assignments will be made at the various volunteer coordination centers:

-- 5 Case Ave., Trenton, at the Dade County Sheriff's Office.

-- 300 W. Third St., Rome. Volunteers for this location should e-mail drc@floydcounty.net or call 706-291-5144 to register or for more information.

--  100 Commerce Place, Barnesville.

--  120 W. Perry St., Manchester.

-- 819 Memorial Dr., Griffin, at the Spalding County Voters Registration Office.

--  7484 Nashville St., Ringgold, at Catoosa County Methodist Church. Volunteers should call  706-935-2109 or 706-935-2199 before coming.
