Gwinnett County authorities say a house fire over the weekend was intentionally set by a burglar trying to cover his or her tracks.

The family who lived in the house in the 2400 block of Mossy Branch Drive in unincorporated Gwinnett near Snellville was out of town Saturday evening when the incident occurred.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze, but not before it caused extensive damage to the first floor and moderate smoke and heat damage to the second floor of the home, which is in the Bright Water subdivision.

Gwinnett fire Lt. Eric Eberly said an adult female and three children lived there.
