Snellville classroom trailer set on fire

Firefighters responded to a fire in a portable classroom (trailer) Tuesday morning at an elementary school in Snellville.

Crews were dispatched to Britt Elementary School at 9:53 a.m. to find smoke and flames in the mobile classroom located away from the main building near the playground area. A passerby, who reported seeing smoke coming from the trailer, called 9-1-1.

The fire was quickly extinguished by first-due firefighters and was contained to the one-classroom. According to fire investigators, someone made an unlawful entry into the trailer and intentionally set the fire. The blaze caused moderate damage to the trailer, but did not involve the main-school building or the other nearby trailers.

According to school officials, summer school classes were in-session at the time in the main-school building and in two other portable classrooms. However, there was no reason for anyone to be inside the portable classroom.
