Cobb & Douglas Public Health officially opened the Smyrna Public Health Center on May 22.

The $2 million center at 3001 South Cobb Drive in Smyrna actually has been open since April 2 with a CobbLinc bus stop just outside the building.

This center provides improved access and service quality for residents who are visiting programs such as Women, Infant and Child Nutrition, family planning, adult health and immunizations, according to a CDPH statement.

Recognizing the need in Smyrna and the south Cobb area for additional clinical services, Dr. Carol Holtz, chair of the Cobb Board of Health, said in the statement, “I am thrilled that we have been able to launch these services for our Smyrna community and make those services and our WIC Clinic more accessible.”

Cobb Commission Chairman Mike Boyce mentioned that the Special Local Option Sales Tax program provided the primary funding for this building renovation.

“This is the kind of project the SPLOST was meant to fund,” said Boyce, calling it “another incredible partnership project in Cobb.”

Additional financial support came from the U.S. Department of Agriculture WIC, CDPH and the city of Smyrna.
