The Smyrna City Council will decide on Aug. 7 whether to keep the same millage rate of 8.99 - although that millage rate will require an increase in property taxes by 5.79 percent.

The proposed annual tax increase for a house with a fair market value of $275,000 is about $57.90. For non-homestead property with a fair market value of $425,000, the proposed tax increase is around $98.43 annually. However, the 8.99 millage rate has remained the same since 2007, according to the city’s Finance Director Kristin Robinson.

Smyrna residents may add comments at 10 a.m. Aug. 7 during a public hearing in the Tax Office, second floor, Smyrna City Hall, 2800 King St., Smyrna. Two other hearings have already taken place.

The vote is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 7 in the Council Chambers, Smyrna City Hall, 2800 King St., Smyrna.
