Smoke forced the evacuation of a Gwinnett school Wednesday.

Duncan Creek Elementary in Hoschton was evacuated after noon. The cause of the smoke, first reported in the cafeteria, was linked to a malfunctioning air conditioner.

Gwinnett fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said no injuries were reported and that the school was evacuated merely as a precaution.

"There's no active fire and the smoke seems to be dissipating," he said at 1:30 p.m. "There's no danger to staff and students."

Kids returned to the building at 1:37 p.m.

The school is located at 4500 Braselton Highway near Hoschton.

More details as they become available.
