DeKalb County worked to clean up about 7,000 gallons of raw sewage that spilled in Decatur on Monday night.

County watershed management reports show the spill occurred from the 300 block of Northern Avenue into Indian Creek. County officials attributed the spill to a blockage of grease and roots.

In December, the federal Environmental Protection Agency mandated DeKalb upgrade its sewer system after the county reported more than 800 raw sewage spills in five years.
