Laura Semanson captured the District 5 seat for the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, besting her opponent Justin T. Hawkins in the Republican primary run-off Tuesday.

With all six precincts reporting, unofficial election results showed Semanson leading Hawkins 58 percent to 42 percent out of 2,722 votes cast. She seeks to succeed incumbent Jim Boff, who was first elected commissioner in 2008 and did not seek re-election. No Democrat qualified in the race.

Semanson's Facebook page describes her as an involved homeowner, community volunteer and "taxpayers' advocate" who transferred to the Atlanta metro area 20 years ago, retired from a marketing communications job to raise a family and has lived with her husband and family in Forsyth for about 15 years.
