A half dozen schools were put on lockdown Tuesday morning while police searched for a bank robbery suspect in Johns Creek.
The robbery occurred just after 10 a.m. at the Bank of America branch on Medlock Bridge Road at Abbotts Bridge Road, according to Johns Creek police.
A note the suspect passed to the teller said that he had a gun, but he never displayed a weapon, police said. He fled the bank on foot.
"Johns Creek police notified out school police department this morning that they were in pursuit of an armed robbery suspect," Fulton County Schools spokeswoman Susan Hale told the AJC.
Hale said that "as a precautionary measure," Northview High, River Trail Middle School and Findley Oaks, Shakerag, Abbotts Hill and Wilson Creek elementary schools were placed on "soft lockdown."
"A soft lockdown entails locking the exterior doors while regular classroom activities may continue," Hale explained.
Just before noon, Hale said that the soft lockdown was lifted after school police were notified that the suspect had apparently left the area.
