A seizure caused a bus driver to leave the road and crash into a “fixed structure” in a local park, police said.

Around 4:30 p.m., a bus driver on the way back to the bus lot unexpectedly veered off the road at Georgia Avenue and Connelly Street and hit a “statue,” said Keith Bromery, spokesman for Atlanta Public Schools.

No kids were on the bus.

“The bus was supposed to be used for a field trip, but the trip was canceled and the driver was heading back,” Bromery said.

Atlanta Police spokesman Otis Redmond said the bus driver suffered a seizure, causing the bus to leave the roadway.

The driver was transported to a local hospital, Bromery said, but he believes the injuries are non-life threatening.
