The city of Sandy Springs kicked off the process under which it will issue revenue bonds to pay for the public portion of the City Center project.

The City Council Tuesday night authorized the city’s facilities’ authorities to issue bonds to pay for the civic building and performing arts center. The bonds have to be validated by the Fulton County Superior Court and a rating for them will be established. The matter will be considered again Oct. 20, but it’s not known when the bonds will actually be issued.

City officials said the bonds will be paid back with lease income on the project.

The council also approved distributing $50,000 from the city’s nonprofit grant program to a dozen such groups. Among groups receiving money: Keep North Fulton Beautiful, Friends of North Springs, Mary Hall Freedom House and Sandy Springs Education Force.
