After weeks of discussion, the Sandy Springs City Council has opted to make no award to manage the city’s tennis center under a current request for proposals, and will issue a new RFP at some future date.

“Questions were raised … regarding evaluation methods and requirements stated in the RFP,” the city said in a prepared statement. “The City Council requested the city’s legal and purchasing staff to review the processes used in the procurement, and to update procedures as needed prior to the issuance of a new RFP for Tennis Center Operations.”

To give staff time to complete the review, the council approved an extension of the current contract, held by Groslimond Tennis Services of Atlanta, through June 30.

An evaluation committee this fall recommended re-awarding the contract to Groslimond. But another respondent to the RFP, Universal Tennis Management, objected, citing an error in the evaluation data.

“It is important that we be transparent in our processes, and our contract selections are free from reproach,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul.

The Sandy Springs Tennis Center, 500 Abernathy Road, has 24 lighted tennis courts (20 hard and 4 clay), a clubhouse, pro shop, men’s and ladies’ locker rooms with showers, and a jogging trail. The Recreation and Parks Department would manage and direct the tennis contract.
