The Roswell City Council has approved spending about $1.1 million to acquire 23,000 new trash containers for semi-automated curbside residential garbage collection.

The council approved a contract with Otto Environmental Systems North America Inc. to provide, distribute and maintain the containers for four years. Otto submitted the lowest of five responsive bids for the order, according to a staff report to the council.

“This program provides for safer collection of residential garbage by reducing employee injuries, increasing staff retention and (providing) a more consistent service, since all residents use the same type of containers with the same weight and attached lids,” staff said.
