The Roswell City Council has approved a $1.2 million contract to have an engineering consultant manage capital improvement projects to be funded by the recently passed sales tax for transportation.

The agreement with Atkins is a three-year contract with an option to renew for two additional one-year terms. The firm was one of six to respond to the city’s request for qualifications. An evaluation committee reviewed the proposals “and determined that Atkins’ response is the most advantageous for the city based upon experience, team members, approach to program, scope and the firm’s financial stability,” according to a staff report to the Council.

Roswell is expected to receive $79 million to $107 million for transportation improvements out of the five-year, 0.75-cent, Transportation Special Purpose Local Optional Sales Tax. Voters on Nov. 8 approved the tax for unincorporated Fulton County and 13 Fulton cities other than Atlanta.
