A school resource officer at Heritage High School in Conyers has been placed on administrative leave and the GBI has been called in to investigate a possible inappropriate relationship between the officer and a student, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Principal Greg Fowler contacted the sheriff’s office, according to an incident report made Thursday. The report said Fowler had received information “of possible inappropriate conduct between the school resource officer and a student of Heritage High School.”
The sheriff’s office identified the officer as Thomas Donahue, a Rockdale County sheriff’s deputy in his second year working at Heritage High. The sheriff’s office did not provide additional information on the student involved, such as the gender or grade. It also didn’t say whether other students may be involved.
Donahue has been a Rockdale deputy for five years, the sheriff’s office said.
In addition to an internal investigation, Sheriff Jeff Wigington has asked the GBI to look into any potential criminal charges, Rockdale Investigator Michael Camp said.
“Due to the ongoing investigations, no further comments will be made at this time,” Camp said.
