Most of this weekend should be roadwork-free, as the state Department of Transportation has suspended construction-related lane closures beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday and continuing through 5 a.m. on July 9 for the Independence Day holiday week.

There will, however, be a few Friday night work zones around metro Atlanta.

In Cobb County, motorists can expect rolling closures along I-75 north and southbond from just south of Ga. 5 to just north of Barrett Parkway, from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Saturday. There will also be road work on the exit ramp from I-75 northbound to Barrett Parkway during those hours.

In DeKalb County, one right lane of I-20 eastbound will be closed near Wesley Chapel Road Friday night, while in Fulton County, work is scheduled Friday night on Ga. 400 in both directions around Peachtree and Lenox roads.

Doug Turnbull in the AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB Traffic Center said traffic will be extra-heavy with holiday week travelers Friday afternoon on all interstates, particularly on I-75 southbound south of Atlanta.

Events scheduled on this record-hot weekend — temperatures are forecast to be in the low 100s — include Braves games at 7:35 p.m. Friday, 4:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:35 p.m. Sunday at Turner Field.

Other events include Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson show at Philips Arena at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
