Investigators are evaluating their next move in the search for a missing Gwinnett teen whose friends say was swept down the Yellow River on Thursday.

Unfortunately, say police, those friends waited more than a day before reporting 14-year-old Jaheem McGhee missing.

The teens told Gwinnett officers they were attempting to cross the Yellow River in a wooded section near Bending River Trail and Riverside Drive in Lilburn when McGhee was caught in the currents.

Police launched an immediate search into the early morning hours Saturday. Gwinnett’s K-9 unit and a police helicopter were deployed to help locate the missing teen.

A cadaver dog picked up something late Saturday in an area of the river just south of Highway 78, a police spokesman said. The Hall County Dive Team was called in to search the area Sunday morning but found nothing.

McGhee is 5-foot-5 and weighs 120 pounds.
