Rio Circle still rebuffing Avondale
Despite Avondale Estates’ annexation resolution passed last week, property owners in the 60-acre, 54-parcel commercial district “Rio Circle”—included on Avondale’s map — still want into Decatur.
Rio spokesman Mike Easterwood said that during a Tuesday meeting “over 90 percent” of its property owners reaffirmed they don’t want into Avondale. “Decatur costs more,” Easterwood said, “but it’s a progressive city with a reasonable land-use plan and police and fire [protection].”
Decatur, however, has publicly displayed little interest in Rio because it’s long been a part of Avondale’s map. Nevertheless Easterwood claims the group has “several steps planned,” which he won’t reveal, though adding, “We will definitely lobby the legislature.”
