Atlanta Crime Stoppers and the owner of a cab company have combined forces to offer a $4,000 reward for information leading to the arrests of suspects in the Dec. 7 shooting of a taxi driver, Atlanta police announced Wednesday.

Authorities are looking for three men in connection with the crime.

Checker Cab driver Theodore Jackson picked up two men in the 1200 block of Caroline Street and was told to take them near the federal penitentiary, but they later asked to be taken to the 1800 block of Henry Thomas Drive instead, police said. While the men argued about the payment for the ride after arriving at their destination, a third man came up to the vehicle, opened the front seat passenger door and shot the driver, authorities said.

"The man who came up to the door shot him in the stomach, and all three males left the vehicle," Investigator Michael Graham told Channel 2 Action News last week.

The suspects are also linked to another robbery in the area, police said Wednesday.

Bill Hewitt, owner of Checker Cab Co., told Channel 2 Thursday that the company has been in business for 65 years and had more than 10 people killed during that time.

Jackson survived and is out of the hospital, the report said.

"Every day, every time they pick up (passengers), they're in danger," Hewitt said.

Authorities want anyone with information on the case to contact the Atlanta police or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
