Cherokee County will save more than $70,000 under a revised utility relocation agreement with Georgia Power Co. for a county road project.

The county Board of Commissioners approved a revised agreement with Georgia Power for relocating utility poles as part of improvements to the intersection of Reinhardt College Parkway (Ga. 140) and Lower Burris and Puckett Creek roads near Canton.

“Now that Georgia Power has finalized easement acquisition and completed their final design, they have presented the county with a revised agreement in the amount of $203,711, which is $70,743 less than the original agreement,” Geoffrey E. Morton, Community Development Agency director, said in an agenda request to commissioners.

The intersection is to be signalized and reconstructed with right- and left-turn lanes on Ga. 140, and improved approaches of Lower Burris and Puckett Creek to provide left-turn lanes, Morton said. Also, Byrd Mountain Road will be moved to the east of the existing intersection to intersect Lower Burris safely away from Ga. 140.
