Brace yourself for a lovely Monday morning in the low to mid 70s in metro Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.

Then the sultry summer season will continue to settle in, as rain chances go down and temperatures head back up into the low to mid 90s on Monday and much of the week.

"It'll be another round of just isolated showers and thunderstorms in tomorrow's forecast," Nitz said. "Otherwise, it's going to continue to be hot." Highs are expected to remain in the low 90s all week, with a 30 percent chance of rain each day through Thursday, Nitz reported.

Storms over the last week provided a much needed break from a recent heat wave of upper-90 and lower -100 degree temperatures, but the relief was not without peril.

The storms have been accompanied by lightning strikes that have touched off house fires.

The Gwinnett Fire Department suspected lightning may have caused an attic fire at a house on Windsor Court in Snellville around 1 a.m. Saturday.

When firefighters arrived they found flames through the roof. Neighbors said they heard thunder and saw lightning nearby. In battling the blaze, firefighters had to deal with downed power lines in the street. No injuries were reported, however, although the family of five was displaced.
