Cobb officials gathered Tuesday for a ribbon cutting for the restored Hermi’s Pedestrian Bridge in Vinings.
The restored bridge was originally built in 1904 to replace a ferry that served as the main conduit from Vinings to Buckhead. The bridge became obsolete in 1974 when a modern bridge was built in 1974. Ten years later the original bridge was named for Hermi Alexander who was killed by a drunk driver in 1983. Hermi and her surviving husband, Cecil, were instrumental in saving the bridge from being destroyed.
Alexander along with Cobb County, City of Atlanta and the PATH Foundation raised money to restore the bridge.
