A Waffle House in Henry County temporarily closed to take care of health code violations after failing a second routine inspection.
Food contact surfaces, as well as floors and walls throughout the facility, needed cleaning, the inspector said. And the dishwasher needed to be repaired.
The Waffle House, 1727 Hudson Bridge Road, Stockbridge, scored 58/U. The restaurant had a 64/U on its previous routine inspection before bringing it up to a 94/A on the follow-up inspection.
Points were taken off for several repeat violations, including being unclean. The inspector said floors and walls, especially below the dishwasher, beneath the cook line and in the back storage, were unclean with old food debris, grim and dirt.
Management voluntarily closed to have these areas cleaned and sanitized.
Among other repeat violations, raw eggs had been out at room temperature for more than four hours, but were placed back into a cooler. The food handler told the inspector she didn’t know they needed to be discarded.
Some food items were stored inappropriately. Raw meat was stored over milk and ready-to-eat foods in one of the coolers.
An employee was using a hand-sink to rinse off cleaning cloths. The sanitizing solution used to wipe down surfaces was too toxic. Too much chlorine could lead to a chemical hazard, the inspector said.
The Waffle House will be re-inspected. [Editor's Note: Waffle House passed the follow-up inspection with 97/A.]
In other news: Two other recently featured Henry County restaurants pulled up their health scores on follow-up inspections. Fuji Express, 1465 Hudson Bridge Road, Stockbridge, scored 80/B. Huge Hibachi Sushi Buffet, 5425 N. Henry Blvd., Stockbridge, scored 76/C.
