Cozy Burger Town off Briarcliff Road in DeKalb County failed a follow-up inspection two weeks after failing an initial routine inspection.

The manager in charge of food safety didn’t know the minimum required cook temperatures for fish, beef, chicken or eggs, the inspector said. And there was a lack of knowledge about other food-borne illness prevention, such as temperatures of cold foods and protecting against cross-contamination during storage.

Among violations, cheese sauce in a squeeze bottle had been stored above the grill throughout the lunch time rush hours, but was never placed back into a cooler. Since no one knew how long it had been out, it was discarded.

Two live adult roaches were observed in the front food service area, and several fruit flies were in the front, kitchen and back of the facility.

Cozy Burger Town, 4800 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, scored a 55/U on the follow-up inspection, just one point higher than the 54/U earned on the earlier routine inspection.

The restaurant will be re-inspected.

In other news: Recently featured Landmark Diner, 3652 Roswell Road, Atlanta, also failed a follow-up inspection after receiving a failing score on a routine health inspection two weeks earlier.

The restaurant scored 44/U after initially scoring a 52/U. Landmark Diner had many repeat violations including: improperly stored foods and utensils, dirty equipment and flying insects throughout the facility. Also, both ice machines were “filthy” inside; “covered all over with black slime buildup,” according to the Fulton County health inspector.

Landmark Diner will also be re-inspected.
