Jamie Hood, the man charged with fatally shooting one Athens police officer and wounding another, also is a suspect in the killing of another man three months ago, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.
Hood, 33, surrendered to police on live television Friday, ending the intense manhunt that had been ongoing since Tuesday afternoon's shooting. Hood is accused of killing Senior Police Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian and wounding Senior Police Officer Tony Howard.
The incident began while police were looking for Hood in connection with a carjacking and kidnapping that happened earlier that day, authorities said.
That kidnapping victim is connected to Kenneth Omari Wray, an Athens-Clarke Transportation and Public Works employee who was fatally shot Dec. 28, Assistant Police Chief Tim Smith told the Banner-Herald.
Judon Antron Brooks, 31, escaped and told police he had been ambushed by Hood.
"We received information that connects Mr. Hood to Mr. Wray's murder. The guy he kidnapped had some kind of relationship with Omari Wray," Smith told the Banner-Herald.
