State Rep. Tom Taylor's recent DUI was troubling on so many levels: Magnitude of intoxication. Number of youths in the vehicle. Speed. Time of day. Booze-reeking water bottle. And, oh yeah, a Glock on his hip.

DUIs are tough for anybody, especially for those whose unsmiling mugshots are broadcast on TV and spread across the Internet. There's almost a ritual involved in surviving such an ordeal — especially if you're running for office.

Today's Bill Torpy at Large column surveys the political wreckage: it'll be tough for Taylor to win re-election and, in the minds of some folks, disastrous if he doesn't.
