Atlanta surpassed its forecast high for Monday and was 18 degrees above average, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The official 76-degree high for the day was only 2 degrees below the record high, set in 1891, Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said.
“Despite that warmup, north Fulton County is still in the upper 50s on the other side of a warm front,” Nitz said.
Currently, it’s 61 degrees in Atlanta.
Temperatures will continue to flirt with breaking records all week.

“(The) five-day forecast shows we’ll keep near-record warmth,” Nitz said.
Monday’s weather turned out to be complicated in North Georgia.
It varied from city to city along I-85, where earlier Gainesville was at 54 degrees with light rain, Atlanta was covered in clouds at 68 degrees and LaGrange hoarded the sunshine and temps in the upper 70s, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
Highs in northeast Georgia are expected to stay in the 50s, where a wedge of cool air remains with an east wind.
The next chance of precipitation is Tuesday, and rain is expected to last all week. Expect to wake up Tuesday morning to temps in the upper 50s.
Rain is most likely Wednesday, when there is a 30 percent chance.
And “the weekend looks like a wet one, especially Sunday when there could be some thunder,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.
