Work began this week on the reconstruction and expansion of Harmony Park in Decatur’s Oakhurst area. This includes demolition of parking in front of the Oakhurst Market and One Step at a Time (to be replaced by a new angled parking), along with installation of storm drainage improvements and the construction of a new plaza. The work should take two weeks. Later in June, a portion of Oakview Road just south of East Lake Drive gets demolished and rebuilt, lowering the road to provide effective drainage for new sidewalks along Oakview. This is all part of a $2 million reconstruction of the Oakhurst business district, including new sidewalks, street lights, street trees and street furniture, work that will take most of this year to complete. The area was originally reconfigured, including the creation of Harmony Park, in 1981.
