College graduates receiving diplomas during outdoor ceremonies this weekend might want to clutch the sheepskin in one hand and an umbrella in the other, as there is at least a chance of rain each day.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said Saturday morning that scattered showers are expected in the area today. And cooler temperatures are on the way.

Saturday will be overcast, with skies clearing in the evening.

“A few showers and thunderstorms will pop up later today, and then more coverage is expected for Saturday,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist David Chandley said early Friday.

The rain will be accompanied by considerably cooler weather, with highs expected to be in the mid-70s Saturday and a bit cooler Sunday.

The National Weather Service put the chance of rain at 60 percent Saturday and 30 percent on Sunday.

In metro Atlanta, outdoor graduation ceremonies will be held Saturday morning at Agnes Scott College and Mercer University Atlanta and Sunday morning at Morehouse College.

Major sporting and entertainment events downtown this weekend include Braves games against the Phillies Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Turner Field and a Bon Jovi concert Saturday night at Philips Arena.

Anyone heading downtown will probably want to allow extra time to get there due to numerous road construction projects that could shut down interstate lanes if the rain holds off.

In Cobb and Fulton counties, the ongoing repaving project on I-75 will shut down the three left lanes of the southbound interstate between the Northside Drive/Howell Mill Road exit and the Techwood Drive/10th Street/14th Street exit. Those lanes, along with the ramp from I-75 southbound to I-85 northbound, are scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

Also in Fulton County, the two right lanes of I-75 southbound between Langford Parkway and Cleveland Avenue will be closed from Friday night through early Monday, along with the ramps from I-75 southbound to Langford Parkway and Cleveland Avenue.

In DeKalb County, repaving along I-20 westbound between Panola and Wesley Chapel roads will close a right lane on Saturday and two left lanes on Sunday.

Just west of there, the ramps from I-20 eastbound and westbound to I-285 northbound will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 9 p.m. Sunday.

On the other side of town, the two left lanes of I-20 westbound between Thornton and Lee roads will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

In Coweta County, northbound motorists on I-85 will find the two right lanes closed between Ga. 34 and Ga. 74 from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. on Saturday.
