Psssst. Here's a secret: You still can't eat while riding MARTA

Note to MARTA patrons: You still can’t eat in your seat.

Not on the bus or train, anyway. Since a new law went into effect to let MARTA sell food in stations, many people, perhaps out of confusion, are taking it too far, according to a statement from the agency.

MARTA officials have seen an increased number of people eating or drinking in trains and buses, which is still a no-no. It increases maintenance costs, and spills in moving vehicles are a hazard.

While the new law allows people to eat in stations — so MARTA can make money from vending — snackers still have to pack it up before getting aboard their rides. All liquids must be re-sealable plastic bottles, and food and drink containers must be closed in the vehicle.
