A Cobb County teenager is accused of carrying brass knuckles while at a football game at Lassiter High School.

James Cooney, 17, was stopped by a police officer who smelled alcohol on the teen at Friday night's game vs. Sprayberry High School, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the AJC. The officer found the brass knuckles while questioning Cooney about alcohol, the warrant states.

Cooney was arrested Tuesday afternoon at his Marietta home and charged with carrying a weapon within a school safety zone and possessing alcohol on school grounds, jail records show. The weapon charge is a felony.

Cooney was booked into the Cobb County jail and released about two hours later after posting $5,000 bond.

Brass knuckles are not prohibited under Georgia law, but are considered weapons when brought onto school grounds, law 16-11-127.1 states.
