Police ID suspect in stabbing of MARTA bus driver

Sept 9, 2011

MARTA police on Friday identified the suspect wanted in the stabbing of a bus driver earlier in the week.

Everett Tyrone Sloan is wanted in DeKalb County for armed robbery, aggravated assault and bus hijacking, authorities said.

Sloan is considered armed and dangerous, police said. They described him as a black man, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 152 pounds, and with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a green and black Everest Institute uniform. His age was not immediately available.

Bus driver Janet Royston, 52, a six-year veteran of the transit agency, was injured around 11:25 p.m. Tuesday during a robbery aboard her bus on Green Forest Drive at Gay Drive.

Bus 2595, on Route 9, stopped when the suspect, who had been a passenger, stabbed the driver, MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris said.

Royston was treated for her injuries at Atlanta Medical Center and released, Harris said.

If you have any information on the case, please contact MARTA police at 404-848-4911.
