Police are seeking the public’s help in catching a pair of burglars who broke into a West End home in December.

The homeowner’s surveillance camera captured the two young men entering the house on Dec. 29 and exiting less than a minute later with a metal lock box.

According to police records, the victim said the box contained his Social Security card and birth certificate.

Footage from the video shows a young black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, white T-shirt and dark-colored jeans approaching the house in the 900 block of Rose Circle sometime after 7 p.m. and knocking on the door.

When no one came to the door, the young man struggles to prop open the screen door with the door stop before using what appears to be a small tire iron – and finally, several kicks – to force open the main door.

A second black male in a black skull cap, black hoodie and dark jeans appears on the porch, and the two enter the house.

In about 30 seconds, they emerge, one carrying a gray box.

Police say nothing else was reported stolen from the home.

The homeowner told police he wasn’t sure how thieves would know to look for the lock box, or why nothing else was taken.

The suspects are both in their late teens or early 20s with slender builds.

Investigators are asking that anyone with information about this incident call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477. Anonymous calls are accepted and any information provided that leads to an arrest or a conviction is eligible for a reward.
