Homicide detectives don't know what led to the weekend shooting death of a 25-year-old at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex, police said Monday.

Kevin James Scott was shot twice in the torso and left in the hallway of the Richardson Street complex, located across the street from Rosa Burney Park near Turner Field.

Atlanta police were called to the scene around 3 a.m. Saturday and Scott was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died. Scott lived in Atlanta, but not at the complex, police said.

"Big Kevin," as he was often called, was a popular guy who graduated from Mays High School, childhood friend Takara Clay told the AJC. While in high school, Scott was named "Mr. Mays," Clay said.

"He was loved by everybody," Clay said. "I don't think anybody ever saw him frown."

Clay said she plans to hold a candlelight vigil Thursday night at Mays to honor Scott.

Investigators are asking for any witnesses to come forward, Lt. Paul Guerruci, of the APD homicide unit, told the AJC. No suspects have been identified, nor have investigators determined a motive, Guerruci said.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to contact APD at 404-546-4235 or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
