Conyers Police are looking for a red Dodge Avenger witnesses say was spotted Wednesday near the house where Jarmeca "Nikki" Whitehead was killed.
The beautician's body was found Wednesday by her 15-year-old twin daughters after they returned home from school. The 34-year-old Decatur native was stabbed multiple times, Conyers Police Chief David Cathcart told the AJC.
Cathcart said the occupants of the vehicle, which has a white hood and missing hubcaps on the passenger's side, are "persons of interest" in Whitehead's murder.
Whitehead's friends said they couldn't understand why anyone would hurt her. "She went out of her way to avoid conflict," said Michele Temple, Whitehead's former boss at Pucci's Coiffeurs in Decatur.
"She didn't like drama," said Hillary Denson, 30, who worked and socialized with Whitehead.
There were no signs of a forced entry at the house on Appaloosa Way where Whitehead lived with her boyfriend, Robert Head, 65.
"She was a loving person, always happy," Head told the AJC Thursday. "She helped everybody."
Head, a truck driver for Kroger, said he last saw his girlfriend of 10 years on Tuesday before he left for Indianapolis.
"Everything was good. She was happy," said Head, who is back in Conyers. He was returning home when he got the news of Whitehead's death from his brother.
Head told the AJC that he has no idea who would want to kill his girlfriend.
"She didn't have any enemies," he said.
Whitehead's friends worry her trusting nature may have contributed to her death. .
"She's a friendly person," Denson said. "No one was a stranger to Nikki."
Conyers Police ask anyone with information about the red Dodge to contact Sgt. Chris Moon at 770-929-4206 or chris.moon@conyersga.com.
