A man and his 3-year-old daughter were found dead Saturday in an Athens hotel room, police said.

Police said while the cause of death cannot be positively identified, they believe 49-year-old Mark Coronado killed his child and then himself, Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez said.

When staff accessed the locked room at the Hampton Inn in the 2200 block of West Broad Street in Athens, they found the bodies and called police, Rodriguez said.

Both bodies were brought to the GBI lab in Atlanta for autopsy.

The girl’s name is not being released by police.
