Police on Thursday identified a pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Sandy Springs.
The victim was identified as Julie Marcella Hernandez, 39, who lived on Hammond Drive near the accident scene, Sandy Springs police spokesman Lt. Steve Rose said.
The incident happened on Hammond Drive at Barfield Road around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rose said.
Hernandez was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital and late pronounced dead from head injuries, Rose said.
Rose said Hernandez was a man but was transgender.
The driver remained on the scene and will not be charged, Rose said.
