Six people, including some high school students, are in jail for what police say was a gang-related assault that left one victim in the trauma unit.
Police say it started when Sincere Costley invited two men to her Legacy Park house for a get together. Police believe the whole thing was a set up, because no one was at the home when they arrived.
Instead, just down the street, one of the men was attacked.
"The people in the car got out, and basically, beat him up," Kennesaw police Officer Scott Luther said.
Both men were beaten and robbed. One victim suffered severe kidney injuries and spent time in the trauma unit. Police say they were also robbed of cash, jewelry and an iPhone.
Police suspected gang involvement and say they were able to trace some of the suspects to North Cobb High School and found others through gang messages on social media. In the end, six people were arrested for the attack.
The incident followed two other gang-related incidents in the past year and a few months. Police won't say if they are linked, but it clearly worries those who live in the area.
"That's scary. As I told you, very scary. I hope the police can come in and help and also the community lets teach our kids the right things," one neighbor told Channel 2's Ross Cavitt.
"Watch your kids. Take control, watch over their lives, and hopefully, they don't get involved in the gangs," another neighbor said.
Many of the suspects are juveniles, but police said all are charged as adults with gang charges, as well as armed robbery and assault. They are being held without bond.
